Job Description

Our esteemed Client is looking for a seasoned IT professional with emphasis in AWS cloud-based
system experience for the position of Lead Systems Engineer to join our team in Reston, VA. The
company is looking for an experienced IT professional to help lead a small team of IT personnel in our
24/7 enterprise environment. Additionally, this role will advise the CTO and collaborate with the
Director of IT Security. VETERANS APPLY!
Position Overview:
This position requires a seasoned professional with practical experience across a wide range of products
and technologies. Emphasis on AWS cloud-based systems is a must. The candidate must be a strong
team player and be well versed in not only high-level support, but capable of coordinating the diagnosis
of complicated and time sensitive technical issues to minimize downtime in addition to contributions to
the Infrastructure team by providing oversight of ongoing and future projects. This environment spans
multiple Operating Systems, vendor appliances, and technologies. The engineer will work with a wide
range of company stakeholders to ensure consistency with overall system architecture, security
standards, policies and procedures. This position requires a candidate who thrives in a dynamic, fast
paced work environment. Candidates will be expected to handle multiple projects simultaneously
including on call rotation.
Responsibilities Include:
• IT projects encompassing the design, deployment, maintenance, and evolution of on-prem & AWS
cloud-based systems
•Windows 10/2008/2012/2016, OSX and Linux production servers
• Code deployments to production environments
• Lead, Coordinate, and Troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues to minimize downtime
• Emergency Tier 1-2 support for customer facing production environments.
• Manage patch management and backups for Linux and Windows systems
• Help Deploy and Enforce security standards developed by the Director of IT security
•Working with development staff to identify requirements and implement solutions.
• Manage and maintain storage appliances (NetApp, Dell, HP)
• Implement, enforce, and improve processes and procedures
• Oversee the integration of new technologies
• Configuration management experience, either with windows or open source tools
•Working knowledge of databases PostGres, MSSQL
• Oversee and/or participate in the 24/7 on-call support rotation
Must Have Skills & Certification:
• AWS cloud-based system experience

• Hands-on technical experience supporting, managing, and deploying Microsoft Enterprise Systems

• Strong Leadership background
• Experience managing production systems in AWS
• MCSE – Minimum
• CompTIA Security +
• Practical experience with AD, Group Policy design and implementation
• Experienced building environments from the ground up
• Deep understanding of Windows IIS 7/ through 10, Apache, NGINX
• Experience supporting and maintaining web servers
• Hands-on experience supporting Windows 2008 and up (physical and virtual systems)
• Experience with SAN and NAS technologies (iSCSI, FCP, CIFS, NFS, etc.)
Bonus Skills and Certifications:
• AWS Certifications
• Redhat Certifications
• DEVOPS or systems architect experience
• Experience scripting in Windows and Linux.
• Experience with Bash, Perl, Ruby on Rails, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Solr.
• Experience maintaining PCI compliance (or other regulatory compliance)
• Experience with Windows scripting technologies such as WMI, WSH, ADSI, VBS and PowerShell
• Experience with Cisco Firewalls and load balancers like AWS ELB, F5, A10
• Management of corporate servers (Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, WSUS)

Qualification Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or 10+ years relevant work experience in lieu
of degree
• Demonstrated work experience as a Systems Engineer
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills; must possess a structured, methodical approach
to systems administration and change management experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication
