ENS Schaffer performed her duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. As Electrical Officer, she spearheaded the Electrical Safety Program during INSURV- a mandated congressional shipboard inspection. Through her meticulous attention to detail and devotion to service, the ship received a 98.2% which was one of the highest rates on the waterfront in 2013.

    Meritorious service while serving as Assistant Materials Officer in COMPHIBRON THREE from November 2014 to May 2016. Lieutenant Schaffer’s exceptional planning and coordination ensured ESSEX AMPHIBIOUS READY GROUP was equipped and trained for an eight-month deployment throughout fifth, sixth, and seventh fleet areas of operation. She meticulously arranged repair plans for seven major casualties returning three deployed ships back into operation ensuring all mission tasking was accomplished. As a vital member of the engineering team, her leadership and expertise directly impacted the successful completion of over twenty mobility-engineering, mobility-damage control, and light-off assessment certification. Her poise as a battle watch captain positively contributed to two presidential support missions, five multi-national exercises, and three safety of life at sea missions. By her unswerving determination, wise judgement, and complete dedication to duty, Lieutenant Schaffer reflected credit upon herself and upheld the highest traditions of United States Naval Service.
